Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV-2) is the main cause of genital herpes which is a sexually transmitted disease. HSV-2 infection is lifelong and incurable. Genital herpes infection is mostly asymptomatic but symptoms such as genital blisters, body aches & fever do occur in some patients. Antibodies are produced by immune system to fight with the virus. This test detects IgG antibodies that are detectable from 21 to over 41 days of infection. IgG antibody is not used to detect early infection rather it is used to detect whether the patient has been previously exposed to the virus. The test is highly recommended in pregnant females to recognize HSV risk. This will help to prevent or minimize cogential deformity in the fetus
